CENTRAL QUESTIONS

 

The residency may sustain inquiry into questions such as:

 

– How does embodied performance knowledge alter what scores, repertoires, traditions, and institutions make possible?

– Which forms of knowledge emerge through listening, rehearsal, interpretation, documentation, and performance?

– How do sources mediate authority, responsibility, and possibility?

– How do instruments, bodies, technologies, spaces, and institutions condition historical performance?

– When can interpretative resistance or technical difficulty become a generative condition of artistic development?

– How can rehearsal function as critical practice and analytical method?

– How are interpretative authority and responsibility negotiated among performers?

– How can performance remain open-ended while preserving sufficient formal, historical, and conceptual coherence to remain intelligible?

– How do collective processes transform identities, methods, presuppositions, and relations among participating artists?

– What musical knowledge arises through the articulation of source, substance, and structure in situated performance practice?

 

These questions are neither exhaustive nor prescriptive. They delineate interpretative, historical, methodological, epistemological, and ethical inquiries that the residency’s collective practice is designed to sustain.
